The Call

Dec. 15, 2017

Brendan's mission call came two days before. It was 10 pm at night when I asked Kaden to check the mail, just in case it was there. He comes back in with a stack of mail and says, "It didn't come". And he was serious. Meanwhile, I quickly spot a large white envelope in his hands - right in the center of the stack! It was here!!! I ran downstairs to tell Brendan - who had already gone to bed. I'm sure I woke him up. He was a bit in disbelief and went back to sleep with a huge smile on his face.

Brendan had been working at Kneaders at a Baker. Usually, he was off work in the evenings, but because of the Christmas rush had had been working late. We planned to open his call on Thursday evening after work at 8:30 pm. Well...he didn't get home until 9:00 - then we went live on Facebook for family to see him open it. We had joked about him going to Idaho because that's where my family is from and he had been there MANY times. So...of course, he begins to read his call and without skipping a beat says that he's been called to labor in the Boise, Idaho mission! We all thought he was serious at first, but then he read the real assignment: He was called to labor in the Texas, Houston Mission; English speaking and to report to the Provo MTC on Feb. 7th, 2018. We were all elated but couldn't believe how soon he would be leaving!
